1984 in the DMZ:

A Russian defects at the DMZ, prompting a bloody shoot-out, and American planners react to a redeployment of the North Korean military. (More coming on this year).
“Since 1982 the North Koreans have been reorganizing their forces for greater mobility, and in 1984 a significant forward deployment of these forces began, greatly reducing our military warning and reaction time,” previously classified US State Department memo, 1/85 (see the memo below).
