During a recent military parade, North Korea revealed civilian-appearing trucks with concealable rocket launchers.
This report from The Drive offers useful analysis. The new systems, which have 12 tubes each (perhaps 122mm rockets, according to The Drive), are part of North Korea’s paramilitary forces. They likely reflect growing understanding that in a world of plentiful and cheap UAV-surveillance platforms, and other emerging ISR technology, concealment and deception are ever more important on the battlefield.
The North Koreans apparently hope that during a war, American and RoK attackers may decide not to waste munitions on a “dump truck” or “panel truck.” Is the next step putting signs on the sides of the trucks reading” “Pak’s Fast Plumbing Services” or “Kim’s Waste Removal?” We’d wonder if Amazon delivery trucks were next, but then this is outside Prime delivery territory.
